Midwest Energy Cooperative is a member-owned electric utility
serving more than 35,000 residential, agricultural, commercial
and industrial customers in southwestern and southeastern Michigan,
northern Indiana and Ohio. Because we are owned by those we serve,
our commitment is to provide a package of high quality customer
care combined with unmatched service reliability to our shareholders.
Our service territory covers 12 counties. The southwest
Michigan region includes portions of Berrien, Cass, St. Joseph, Kalamazoo
and Van Buren Counties, as well as St. Joseph, Elkhart and LaGrange Counties
in northern Indiana. The southeast
Michigan region includes portions
of Lenawee and Monroe Counties, as well as Williams and Fulton
Counties in northern Ohio. Our corporate headquarters is in Cassopolis,
and we have district service
centers in Adrian and Paw Paw.
History and Services Midwest Energy Cooperative officially began providing services
on January 1, 1998 following the successful merger of Fruit Belt
Electric Cooperative (based in Cassopolis) and Southeastern Energy
Cooperative (based in Adrian), both of which had served their respective
districts since 1937. Armed with the knowledge that a merger would
create a stronger organization capable of providing better customer
care and offering a more diverse array of products and services,
the shareholders of each cooperative gave the proposed merger their
overwhelming stamps of approval at membership meetings on October
18, 1997. Midwest Energy Cooperative’s core service is and always
will be the distribution of electricity, but today’s organization
is a regional provider of energy and telecommunications products
and solutions. Some of our other programs and services include:
• Midwest Propane
• Midwest Connections Long Distance Telephone
• Midwest Connections Dial-Up Internet
• And many other energy-related products
and services to meet your
needs.
