Company Overview

Midwest Energy Cooperative is a member-owned electric utility serving more than 35,000 residential, agricultural, commercial and industrial customers in southwestern and southeastern Michigan, northern Indiana and Ohio. Because we are owned by those we serve, our commitment is to provide a package of high quality customer care combined with unmatched service reliability to our shareholders.

Our service territory covers 12 counties. The southwest Michigan region includes portions of Berrien, Cass, St. Joseph, Kalamazoo and Van Buren Counties, as well as St. Joseph, Elkhart and LaGrange Counties in northern Indiana. The southeast Michigan region includes portions of Lenawee and Monroe Counties, as well as Williams and Fulton Counties in northern Ohio. Our corporate headquarters is in Cassopolis, and we have district service centers in Adrian, Paw Paw and White Cloud.

History and Services
Midwest Energy Cooperative officially began providing services on January 1, 1998 following the successful merger of Fruit Belt Electric Cooperative (based in Cassopolis) and Southeastern Energy Cooperative (based in Adrian), both of which had served their respective districts since 1937. Armed with the knowledge that a merger would create a stronger organization capable of providing better customer care and offering a more diverse array of products and services, the shareholders of each cooperative gave the proposed merger their overwhelming stamps of approval at membership meetings on October 18, 1997.

Midwest Energy Cooperative’s core service is and always will be the distribution of electricity, but today’s organization is a regional provider of energy and telecommunications products and solutions. Some of our other programs and services include:
