UPDATE:(23 Dec. 4 p.m.)
(Cassopolis, MI) – About 700 Midwest Energy Cooperative customers remain without power at 4 p.m. today as crews continue to battle strong winds to restore service. Most of the remaining outages are located in the southern portions of the cooperative’s southwest Michigan service territory.
Crews have been working since early this morning when severe wind storms swept across the region. About 10,000 customers were without power at 7 a.m. today. “Our crews have been working hard all day, with little reprieve from this wind. We get one line restored, and learn of another one down,” said Terry Rubenthaler, vice president of engineering.
Rubenthaler is keeping crews in the field at this time to continue with restoration, and remains hopeful that most services will be restored today.
Customers are reminded to stay away from downed power lines, and contact the Midwest Energy Cooperative office at 1-800-492-5989 if a downed power line is spotted.
Midwest Energy Cooperative is a member-owned electric utility providing electric and an assortment of energy-related programs and services to more than 37,000 customers in 11 counties in southern Michigan and northern Indiana and Ohio.
