(Cassopolis, MI) – Spencer Perry, son of Wade and Lisa Perry of Adrian, was selected for an all-expenses paid tour of Washington, D.C. in June as part of the Michigan delegation to the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association Youth Tour. Perry’s trip is sponsored by Midwest Energy Cooperative.
A sophomore at Lenawee Christian School, Perry was selected after participating in the Michigan Teen Days event. Teen Days is a three-day adventure designed to teach high school students about electricity and rural electric cooperatives. Six of Michigan’s electric cooperatives participate in the annual event, held at the Kettunen 4-H Center in Tustin. Each cooperative then selects students for the Washington trip.
The Youth Tour brings together about 1400 students representing electric cooperatives from all over the United States. While in Washington, students will meet with legislators and experience first-hand many of the historical and cultural sites of the nation’s capitol.
Midwest Energy Cooperative is a member-owned electric utility providing electric and an assortment of energy-related programs and services to more than 35,000 customers in 11 counties in southern Michigan and northern Indiana and Ohio. Midwest Energy is the parent company of Midwest Connections and Midwest Propane and has district offices in Cassopolis, Paw Paw, and Adrian.
