In addition to our mission to provide first-in-class innovations where others won’t, we are dedicated to building strong communities by giving our youth the tools they need to excel. Our Strengthening Schools Grant Program offers local educators the opportunity to reach students in new and exciting ways.

This program is made possible through sponsorship dollars from our power supplier, Wolverine Power Cooperative. Some of our past grants have included funding for updated classroom microscopes, helping a principal give kids tools for working through difficult emotions, supporting literacy and jumpstarting a beekeeping program.

Any teacher, administrator or school official in a public elementary, middle or high school serving students in our electric service territory may apply for a grant of up to $2,500 to support classroom needs, technology, or academic projects/clubs/organizations. School districts can receive multiple grants, not to exceed a total of $5,000 for the award cycle and funds will be awarded in January 2020.

Applications are evaluated and funding decisions are made by a committee of MEC customers without knowledge of the applying school, district or educator.

Some school districts within the MEC electric service territory include Addison, Adrian, Bangor, Blissfield, Brandywine, Britton-Deerfield, Cassopolis, Clinton, Colon, Constantine, Covert, Dowagiac, Decatur, Edwardsburg, Hartford, Hudson, Lawrence, Lawton, Madison, Marcellus, Mattawan, Morenci, Onsted, Paw Paw, Sand Creek, Schoolcraft, Tecumseh, Three Rivers, Van Buren Skills Center, Vicksburg, Volinia, Watervliet and White Pigeon.
