Due to the feedback we received from potential subscribers, we have decided to update our offer and extend the service area. Here are the details: 

  • Payment Plan: Pay $75 down by March 2, 2020 and $25/month for 12 months on your bill once service is installed. This requires a two-year service contract.
  • Pay-in-Full: Pay the one-time construction fee of $315 by March 2, 2020. This requires a one-year service contract. 

If we secure at least 265 paid sign ups by March 2, we will implement our six-month construction plan and begin home installs in September 2020. To get started, please complete the following steps:

  1. Complete and sign the Service Offer Application & Agreement and return it with payment in the enclosed self-addressed envelope.
  2. Spread the word and encourage your friends and neighbors to return their materials to reach the sign-up goal. If we reach the goal prior to March 2, we may begin construction sooner.

We will share the results of this campaign and let you know what the next steps are no later than March 6, 2020.

FAQs

How do I know if my address is included? 

Please refer to our map to determine whether you are in the planned service area. If you are within the map boundaries, you can return the sign up form to us with your payment at MEC, 60590 Decatur Rd., Cassopolis, MI 49031. If you are not sure if you are in the service area, please call us at 800.492.5989.

Why do I have to pay construction charges when others who have service didn't?

Our initial internet deployment served, and was funded by, our electric customers and utilized our current electric infrastructure. The project fulfilled a dual purpose: bringing fiber internet to our electric customers, but more importantly, enabling us to implement technologies to improve our electric distribution service. Therefore, to ensure that our cooperative electric customers are not subsidizing the costs of internet expansion to individuals not on our electric lines, we require a portion of the cost for building new infrastructure to be paid for by those benefiting from the expansion.

Why will it take so long for the project to be complete?

It takes time to build out new infrastructure. We will start the planning process early next year and begin construction in the spring.  The project will take approximately 6 months to complete. In home installations to begin September 2020. 

What happens if we don’t get the necessary number of people? When do I get my money back?

Refunds will be mailed shortly after the deadline.

Do you provide an email address?

No. We recommend using a free service like Google or Yahoo. 

Will I get a refund of the construction cost if my home is sold before service is installed? 

No, if the project is successful, no construction fees will be refunded.

What are the steps involved with construction and installation?

We begin by building the infrastructure including mainline construction and splicing. We also have to create maps for each service drop, build the lines to each service address (i.e. service drop), which includes adding a box to the outside of your home and perform another round of splicing. After that, we can begin in-home installations.

During installation, your installer will bring the fiber from the outside box to the inside of your home. We will work with you to determine the best routing and placement for the indoor equipment based on your home configuration and personal preferences. We will also test the service to ensure everything works and help you get started with your MEC account.
