The rural broadband revolution is moving east.
At their June meeting, the board of directors approved a plan to begin construction in our southeast Michigan and northern Ohio service territory in 2020. The full build-out is expected to take 18 months and cover about 580 overhead and underground miles with 6,134 total passings. We don’t yet have a specific construction plan or timeline in place, but the team is beginning to build the workplan to secure funding for this exciting next step. We’ll share additional information as it becomes available, but we’re coming!
Meanwhile, here’s what’s going on with construction in southwest Michigan:
- Bloomingdale: Walkout work is complete and mainline construction is underway. Remember there are many additional steps as we build out the system, but we still expect to begin home installs in Q4.
- Jones: Mainline construction and splicing are underway. We’re making great progress and are well on track to begin home installs in Q4.
- Union: We’re still finishing up drop construction and splicing on a couple of circuits, but are actively doing home installs across this zone.
- West Three Rivers: Drop construction and splicing are right around the corner, and home installs will begin early in Q3.
2019 Build: In 2019, we will complete our initial five-year southwest Michigan deployment and build out to consumers in our Constantine-White Pigeon, Hartford-Covert, Paw Paw, and Texas-Portage Zones. We don’t have a specific construction plan or timeline in place yet, but will share it as soon as we can.
