We've officially changed from Midwest Energy Cooperative, Midwest Propane, and Midwest Connections to simply Midwest Energy & Communications.
We aren't just about energy anymore, and we needed a name to more accurately reflect who we are and what we offer. Now, we're telling one story—that small-town life doesn't mean giving up on better living—whether that's through energy sources like electricity and propane, or communications like high-speed internet.
Along with our new name, we changed our colors to better represent the optimism and modernity of Midwest Energy & Communications. The green not only embodies the roots of our rural beginning, but also delivers a more positive and energized theme to our brand. And the gray finishes our new look with a clean and contemporary touch.
Our MEC logo is just one way we are representing the new era of Midwest Energy & Communications.
The simple and modern design uses three "power bars" to represent the letter "E." It's a symbol of our commitment to providing sources of power to our members and communities by means of electricity, propane, and high-speed internet.
As any organization begins to offer new products or services, it's easy to become fragmented – with different teams, names, locations, and even different ways of speaking about what they do.
We will no longer be "Team Midwest," "Team Propane," and "Team Fiber." We're one team – Midwest Energy & Communications.
We believe the best time to modernize our image, and reinforce our story, is at the same time we are modernizing our products and services.
Our new brand goes beyond the need for an updated look. It stems from the real, positive change happening as an organization and throughout the areas we serve.
It is always our goal to be transparent about how we manage member resources, and responsible in how we allocate those funds.
We are carefully and thoughtfully managing this important project so the impact on members' bills is minimal.
We are still a member-owned, non-profit electric cooperative, but today we're so much more. We're delivering other first-in-class innovations and solutions where others won't, all inspired by the same united vision of creating more vibrant, relevant, and sustainable rural communities.
"Midwest Energy Cooperative" served us well as a name for decades. However, a new image helps us be one team, with one voice.
We will no longer be "Team Midwest," "Team Propane," and "Team Fiber." We're all one team – MEC, which stands for "Midwest Energy & Communications." And we will tell one story – that small- town life doesn't mean giving up on better living – whether that's through energy resources like electricity and propane, or communications like high-speed internet.
We aren't just about energy anymore. We've expanded our services, and changed our name to more accurately reflect who we are and what we offer.
Especially given the new building project, and the introduction of fiber, changing at this time allows us to take advantage of efficiencies we wouldn't otherwise have. For instance, we can invest in the signage outside our building just once, we can update our website earlier in the process of offering new services, and even small things like updating our stationary with a new address and logo at the same time.
We will no longer use the "sunburst" logo along with the name "Midwest Energy Cooperative."
Now, the only logo used is the acronym "MEC" with the three "power bars" for the letter "E." As we transition, most applications will include our full name, "Midwest Energy & Communications," below the logo, although in time we expect to become informally known as MEC.
Our new colors introduce a brighter, modern, and more positive tone to our look. The green represents our rural landscape and, as the brightest color in our palette, most represents our optimism. The light gray balances the green and gives MEC a modern, clean look.
Like our mission, we wanted the new colors to stay true to our roots, our beginning, while staying relevant with the times.
The branding process is funded through an investment spread out over multiple years. We are carefully and thoughtfully managing this important project so that the impact on members' bills is minimal.
Bills will have an updated look as a result of the new logo and name.
Yes. We are still living by the same mission and vision as a member-owned, non-profit electric cooperative, just as it was in the beginning. With the addition of new services and growth, this branding is meant to solidify that identity, not confuse it.
If you're a member, you'll still interact with MEC in much the same way – whether through bills, customer service, or communications during outages. In fact, it's our goal to make it easier than ever to interact with MEC as a result of a more consistent look and messaging.
