High schoolers: Do you like to travel and want to learn more about our country’s government? We’re accepting applications for NRECA Youth Tour, an all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C., for students 15-17 years old.
Each year we choose up to two delegates. You’ll join nearly 1,800 other high schoolers from across the country to visit historical sites, meet lawmakers, and discover the history of America’s rural electric cooperatives. It’s a great opportunity to have an interactive experience with our nation’s inner workings and have fun while doing it—just ask Aiden, one of our 2026 delegates.
“During the week, we visited many historical monuments and museums such as the Washington Monument, Mount Vernon, the National Air and Space Museum, and Capitol Hill,” Aiden says. “My favorite part was meeting new people and learning about history and government with them. Traveling with other people from Michigan taught me to be more open to new people, and by the end, we were like family.
“I learned how to make social connections and their importance, along with how electric co-ops represent their communities and their importance on Capitol Hill. I also learned how accessible our government is to citizens and that everyone’s voices do matter, and it’s our duty to stay informed to make the best decisions.
“If I could give one piece of advice to future delegates, I would say take time to learn about the government and history, because one day you will help decide the future of America!”
