We're Midwest Energy & Communications (MEC). It’s so nice to meet you! We are a local fiber internet and phone cooperative based in rural southern Michigan, and we look forward to being your new provider.

What’s Happening to Springcom, Inc. and Springport Telephone Company

After over 100 years, the family behind Springcom, Inc. and Springport Telephone Company has decided it’s time for a new adventure. MEC proved the perfect fit to purchase the company.

Springport Medical Clinic will remain open and will not be impacted by this acquisition.

What This Means For You

Your current service and support remain the same through the transition. For now, keep using and paying for your service as normal.

Once the sale is finalized, you will be an MEC customer. We'll keep you informed throughout the process and will send letters with your account number, billing information, and more once we have more details. Additionally, your service, equipment, and support will not change right away. 

Later this year, MEC will build fiber optics in your area. At that time, you’ll be asked to switch to our fiber. With our blazing-fast speeds and our free mobile app, you can manage your kids’ online activities, protect your connected devices from hackers, set up guest networks, and more. All of this comes with a Wi-Fi 7 router and is backed by local expert support.

Eventually, all services from Springcom, Inc. and Springport Telephone Company will no longer exist. We will keep you informed throughout the process, including when construction begins in your area and when your home is ready for an upgrade.

When This Goes Into Effect

Some time in the coming weeks. We will share more information once we have it. In the meantime, we are working on getting all Springcom/Springport accounts in our system.

  • Every Monday & Tuesday in June, 9:30 am- 4:00 pm

  • Saturday, June 6, 10 am - 2 pm

  • Wednesday, June 17, 2 pm - 7 pm

  • Saturday, June 20, 10 am - 2 pm

We'll also be at the Springport Summer Festival on June 13.

How do I contact MEC?

How will I pay my bills or manage my account?

We offer several ways to pay your bill, including autopay. First, though, you need to get set up in SmartHub, our free online bill pay and account management hub and mobile app. Please fill out this form, and we will send you instructions for how to do that.

  • View your current balance and update your account info

  • Make payments online, create recurring payments, and modify your payment methods

  • Sign up for text or email billing notifications

  • Contact us about your service

How to Pay Your Bill

  • Autopay: Once your account is set up in SmartHub, you can sign up for autopay via SmartHub or by calling 800.492.5989 and following the prompts. 

  • SmartHub: Make payments through our website or via the SmartHub mobile app. 

  • In Person: Visit one of our solutions centers.

  • MoneyGram: Visit any MoneyGram location. Please be aware that MoneyGram charges a fee.

Will my service or equipment change?

At this time, your service is not changing, and you'll keep using the same equipment you are now

However, we are building our ultra-fast, reliable fiber network in your area later this year. Once complete, you will have access to our fiber internet, which includes advanced parental controls, protection from hackers, unlimited data, and a Wi-Fi 7 router at no additional charge. You will also have access to our fiber phone service. Your existing Springport service will eventually terminate, and we’ll notify you in advance of any changes to your service.

   

Will my account number change?

Yes. We will mail letters with your account number once your account is in our system. Otherwise, you can fill out this form, and we will contact you with more information. 

What if I am enrolled in autopay?

For security reasons, you will need to re-enroll. Once you have your account number, you can enroll by: 

  • Calling 800-492-5989 and following the prompts. 

  • Signing up in SmartHub, our online bill pay and account management tool.

Can I keep my phone number?

Yes! Your friends and family will still be able to call you at your current phone number – it won’t change.

The Next Phase

Later this year, we’re building our reliable, fast fiber internet to bring you the best possible internet and phone services. Once our construction is complete, you’ll be asked to switch to our fiber internet and phone.

We'll let you know when we've started construction and provide more information about the process and timing.
