Concrete tilt-up walls at HQ build site

The Associated Builders and Contractors West Michigan Chapter (ABC) recognized Kent Companies for their concrete work on our headquarters project at last week's 32nd Annual Excellence in Construction Awards. The annual event highlights the region's best people and projects in a wide variety of categories, ranging from glazing to concrete to new overall construction.

Kent Companies won in the Precast Concrete category. The Grand Rapids contractor used tilt-up concrete construction for the walls of our Decatur Road facility. Tilt-up is a building system whereby large concrete walls are cast on the building slab or elsewhere on site, then lifted (tilted) into position.  It’s quick, efficient, cost effective, and safe, and offers cosmetic flexibility and sustainability that rivals any other construction method. It also offers great long-term benefits for heating and cooling and maintenance costs.

When the project was all said and done, we used over 2,200 cubic yards of concrete and 89 tons of reinforcing steel to create about 87,000 square feet of tilt-up panel. The entire process was just eight weeks from start to finish.

Congratulations to Kent Companies.
