Renewable Energy Program
Renewable Energy Program

Community solar is a great way to enjoy the benefits of renewable solar energy without the investment and ongoing maintenance. We’ve teamed up with SpartanSolar to build a solar array on our Cassopolis property at the intersection of M60 and Decatur Road. Construction is slated to begin late this spring, and we expect the array to go live in the fall.

Co-op members are eligible to buy subscriptions to one or more panels on the array. Your subscription entitles you to a share of the energy produced, which will be credited on your bill. No extra meter is required.

DETAILS

  • Subscription costs: $600/panel upfront cost or $10 monthly payments for five years
  • 15-year agreement
  • Credit of $.10/kWh generated

Your MEC bill will include a credit from the power generated in the month prior to the billing. The credit is based on the number of panel subscriptions you have. You can cancel your subscription at any time.

We have begun pre-selling subscriptions for the array but you will not be charged until the array goes live. Sign up now at spartansolar.com, we will email you a contract within a few days.

Offset your energy use with your own electric generation. Us what you need, sell what you don’t.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

After you install your renewable energy generation system, we’ll install a special two-way meter that records how much electricity you use and how much you are putting on the grid. Every kWh you produce and use in your home is a kWh you don’t have to buy from us. If you use more than you produce, you will be billed for the difference. If you use less than you produce, you will be credited the full retail rate for the energy you provide to us in accordance with the applicable standard service tariff.

DETAILS

  • 10-year agreement
  • Retail offsets for kWh produced and used
  • 20kW cap

If you are interested in participating, please fill out our Distributed Renewable Energy Generator Interconnection Application and mail it back to us with the required materials.
